Choosing your wedding flowers

Wilderness Flowers wedding bouquet

Sure, choosing flowers for your wedding day can be deemed a seriously daunting task. What will be in fashion by the time my date comes around? How can I make sure they will complement my gown and bridesmaids dresses…or the arbour and where do I even start with tablescapes? On top of all these questions, we then have our very scary budget looming over our heads.

The incredible Mikarla from Wilderness Flowers shows us how to K.I.S.S with these following tips on everything you need to know about perfecting your wedding florals.

With the endless options available, as a bride where do you suggest even starting?
I would always start with the bridal bouquet, once you have the style and colour palette of the bouquet it really sets the tone for the rest of the floral look. Then consider the bridesmaids dresses and how the colours and textures work together. Also think about what flowers are sentimental to you as a couple and ask your florist about seasonal availability.

What are the must-haves that every couple should consider at their wedding?
Choose a few key areas that are special to you and make them into a stunning floral feature. It could be the ceremony space, bridal table or a hanging installation. This is what guests always remember from weddings and is what makes the event really special.

If you’re on a budget, where can you cut costs with your floral arrangements?
Allow your florist to use seasonal flowers and don’t get too caught up in flower type. I would also suggest taking out elements that are not the main focal areas like pew ends, signing table and seating sign arrangements.

What florals are trending right now?
Tinted Phalaenopsis orchids in mocha and blush tones with sculptural dried palms and textual grasses are really popular this season and work beautifully with the Byron beach luxe look.

I’m also finding couples are embracing more vibrant and unusual colours schemes as well as favouring sculptural hanging arrangements and lush arbours over big table centres.

Thankfully Byron bay is a magnet for creative and eclectic types so no two weddings are ever the same. Thinking outside the box and beyond the trends is what makes all the Byron Bay weddings look so unique and fashion forward.

What florals are guaranteed to make a statement on your tables?
Work with your wedding stylist and stationery supplier to consider the total look of your tablescape. Go for a high impact bold colour or unusual combination as a talking point for guests. The right linen napkin, glassware and candles in the same tones as your table flowers will really pull the look together. Small details like a sprig of olive foliage or a single rose on each place setting may be all you need if you are doing hanging florals above your tables.
